Cakes meet Karen

I am so fortunate to know so many talented photographers.  My last photo shoot was at Irresistible Portraits, home of the talented Karen Goforth. One of her amazing assistants Amy took some time one afternoon to have some fun with my cakes.

Barbie will never go out of Style!

This post is a long time coming.

a few weeks ago, I had the privilege of making a cake for my boss’ daughter, Phoebe. It was her fourth birthday and a Barbie cake was certainly the way to go. This reminded me of one of my earliest birthday memories. My mom made me my very own Barbie cake.

I have always thought Barbie cakes were a bit cheesy, but when I actually got the opportunity to make one, it turned out to be quite fun. This is what I came up with…

Phoebe is a doll and she loved her Barbie cake. A perfect match!

A Vintage Sort of Day

Flutter by, butterfly...

Starting this business has always been a dream of mine. I have been fortunate enough to have plenty of free time recently and to know so many great photographers. These two things combined have helped me build my portfolio and to get a great kick-start.
My second photo shoot was was with Lindsey. She was so great. The day before our shoot was a beautiful sunny day, so we planned to take my pictures outside. But when the day came, it was cold and wet.  We  only got to take a few pictures outside  but fortunately, Lindsey is quick on her feet and came up with a plan. We took my cakes to The Depot, which turned out to be fantastic. My cakes fit in so well, with their vintage feel and all the antiques there. I only had six cakes and there were a ton of places for pictures, so I will definitely be going back there.

I want to thank Lindsey of Lindsey Lee Photography for being so flexible and awesome at what you do! I had a blast working  with you and look forward to seeing you in the future!

The Best Part of Birthday Parties is the Cake! ~Ragan Coan

Ella Mackenzie is my 3 year old niece. I know this because not only is she my sister’s daughter, but this child absolutely LOVES chocolate! Therefore, I had to make her a VERY chocolate birthday cake. I started with Chocolate Fudge layers of cake  and filled them with Dark Chocolate Italian Meringue Buttercream. This was as chocolate as possible.

As Chocolate As Possible

I think she liked it!

I am so privileged to have such a supportive family who are all so willing to be my taste testers for this cake endeavor of mine!

It is my pleasure to make tasty cakes for everyone and every occasion.

The Pictures I Promised

Simple is Bold

Here is my first set of pictures to share. My friend Blair Phillips
was so kind to take these photos for me! Enjoy!

Getting Started

I just wanted everyone to know a little bit of my background, so that you can know how exciting all of this is for me.

In May 2009 I graduated from Central Piedmont with an Associate’s Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts, which I had to finish with an 8 week internship. I decided to head to Chicago for that adventure, where I started working at Take the Cake, Etc. There, I learned the art of making cakes. I had known for a long time that making custom cakes was what I really wanted to do.  Working there taught me so much that I did not know about what I love to do. After working there for almost a year, I decided that I had learned all the skills and techniques I needed to come home and start making cakes for a living.

So now I am home, in China Grove, NC. My goal is  to be who people think of when they need a cake, no matter what special day it is. I love putting my creative skills to good use by making the most beautiful, unique cakes around. I have confidence that I can make a cake that is perfect for your special day. Please, follow me on my journey of doing what I love to do. I will update as often as possible with pictures and ideas. Feel free to comment or ask any question you might have.

Pictures will soon follow!
